BILL GATES> A pandemic simulation exercise two months before Covid-19 erupts

Sotiris Tsiodras was born on October 13, 1965 in Sydney, Australia. Soon, however, his family returned to Greece and Mr. Tsiodras graduated from high school in his neighborhood of Kypseli (with honors) and was admitted to the Medical School of Ioannina.
Two years later he transferred to the Medical School of Athens as an excellent student. It ended with “Excellent” in March 1991.
His military service followed. In 1991-93 he served in the Army, as a doctor at the Health Training Centers in Messolonghi, Arta, Symi, the Army Geographical Service and the 401 General Military Hospital of Athens, where he also worked as a Pathologist for 6 months.
Starting his medical career, he gave an interview to 10 US university hospitals and spent the first 3 years in the Department of Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein University Hospital. From 1997 to 2001, he was an internist specializing in Pathology with further specialization in Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School and the only candidate from a foreign country to be accepted.
In 1998 he received the title of “Harvard University Medical Scholar”. There he was trained in the clinical follow-up of a wide range of patients with infectious diseases, which included patients with complex immunosuppressive soil infections, e.g. from transplants (a world-renowned center for liver and bone marrow transplants) or from AIDS. In 2001 he obtained his master’s degree from the same School.
With this course in the US, Mr. Tsiodras could stay there and pursue a medical career in a country that clearly offers more prospects and potential. However, he chose to return to Greece (2001) where he completed his compulsory Agricultural Law at the Messina Health Center.
After the end of his term, he worked as an infectious disease specialist at KEELPNO.
The following year he presented his doctoral dissertation at the Medical School of EKPA, was awarded a doctorate and from December 2003 pursued an academic career going through all stages of development: scientific associate, lecturer, assistant, associate and now full professor.
In the meantime, he worked as an infectious disease specialist at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake, Utah, while at the Athens Olympics in 2004, he was the doctor responsible for the Olympic Retirement Surveillance System.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that Mr Tsiodras has been at the forefront of the organization and treatment of viruses. In 2005 he participated in the organization and planning of treatment of influenza pandemic and in the completion of the National Pandemic plan as a member of the writing team. Ως λοιμωξιολόγος–σύμβουλος στο ΚΕΕΛΠΝΟ συμμετείχε ενεργά σε αντιμετώπιση καθημερινών κλινικών προβλημάτων λοιμώξεων αλλά και στην διερεύνηση επιδημιών όπως η επιδημία μυοκαρδίτιδας από εντεροϊούς στην Κρήτη το 2003, η ψευδοεπιδημία περιστατικών με οξύ αναπνευστικό σύνδρομο (SARS) στην Λήμνο το 2003, η επιδημία από περιστατικά Σαλμονέλλωσης στο Αργος το 2004 η ψευδοεπιδημία από ύποπτα ανθρώπινα περιστατικά για γρίπη των πουλερικών Η5Ν1 το 2005-2006 καθώς και η πανδημία γρίπης 2009-2010, οι επιδημίες ελονοσίας και Δ. Νείλου το 2010-2012 και η επιδημία λύσσας σε ζώα στην Βόρειο Ελλάδα το 2012-2013.
